Available Courses

  • Probationary TSS Training | 11 credits

New to being a TSS? This course is your introductory training.
  • H&CS Autism Overview | 6 Credits

This training encompasses three smaller courses—The Challenges of Parenting a Child with Autism, Autism Interventions, and Applied Behavior Analysis—for a complete program on the therapy of Autism.
  • DOCUMENTATION REFRESHER (Documentation-R) | NON-CREDIT TRAINING

If you're in need of a refresher course on paperwork, this is the place to be. There are dozens of forms that will cross your desktop—the physical one, and the digital one—and you'll need to know the best ways to find them out, fill them in, and send them back.

Documentation-Refresher is an unpaid training. This training, effective 7/1/2009, is required only for TSS/PCA at the directive of the Case Manager or Coordinator. Other staff are welcome to complete this training as a personal refresher, but you will not be paid for it. This training should not be entered into your electronic timesheet and you will not receive training credits for it.

  • ETHICS | 2 credits

The question of ethics in human services is unfortunately not always a priority consideration. This training does not presume to present all of the ethical issues which might be considered in human services, but hopes to highlight the need for thought about ethics and how our decisions conscious or not impact our expectations, implementations and outcomes.
  • BEHAVIORIAL PHARMACOLOGY | 2 Credits

This course will examine the psychopharmacology of several common mental disorders encountered by Home and Community Services staff. The purpose of the training is not to guide or influence diagnosis or treatment provided by a licensed physician or psychologist, but to inform and prepare H&CS staff to deal with compliance, regimens, and side effects of commonly-prescribed medications their clients may take.
  • DSM-IV-TR | 2 Credits

This course was designed to provide a general overview of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (and all subsequent editions as published). Participants will gain an understanding of the codes, criteria and descriptive texts that comprise a DSM-IV entry, as well as the axes involved in a comprehensive diagnosis, so that they might interpret and benefit from the specific diagnoses that psychiatrists and medical professionals make regarding their clients.
  • CHILD DEVELOPMENT | 2 Credits

This course is an overview of the domains of child development in each of the major stages of childhood growth. It is an excellent refresher of developmental stages and provides resources to help staff understand growth and change in our clients.
  • APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS | 2 credits

This training is designed to help participants discriminate between what ABA is, and what it is not and identify the four main goals of ABA and incorporate these goals into their professional practice. Staff will also learn how to locate and use digital resources to master and reinforce their ABA skills.
  • CORPORATE COMPLIANCE | 3 credits

At the conclusion of this State-required annual training, participants will be familiar with the policy and procedures of Home and Community Services of the Chester County Intermediate Unit, understand the State and MCO regulations that govern Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services (BHRS), and know what BHRS services are, how families access BHRS, and the roles and responsibilities of each service provided. Staff will be able to better comply with "best practices" and display professional behavior in the delivery of services in both the home and school settings, and be able to confidently meet the terms of subjects such as fraud prevention, confidentiality, mandated reporting and record keeping.
  • CULTURAL DIVERSITY | 2 credits

This training will explore the subject of cultural sensitivity, competence, stereotyping, and assumptions. Through a combination of lessons and interactive assignments, the course will force participants to look inward, reflect on their own culture as well as the cultures of their clients, and respond with an acceptance that helps families and clients feel comfortable and respected.
  • Reactive Attachment Disorder | 2 Credits

Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is a severe attachment disorder characterized by markedly disturbed and developmentally inappropriate ways of relating socially. RAD arises from a failure to form normal attachments to primary caregivers in early childhood. This training will help you assist parents with improving the bond with their child.
  • Autism Interventions | 2 Credits

This training will quickly review Autism Spectrum Disorders, discuss the different types of interventions for behaviors, learn about the people behind some of these interventions, and review what you need to know as a professional working with a child diagnosed with Autism.

  • The Challenges of Parenting a Child with Autism | 2 Credits

The professional's unidentified client is the family of the child they serve. Parents and extended family will be challenged by the disorder in many ways; the purpose of this training is to provide the professional caregiver a window into the dynamics of a household with an Autistic Child.

  • COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY | 2 credits

This training is an introduction to Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which is a clinical methodology that helps the client to uncover and alter distortions of thought or perceptions that may be causing or prolonging psychological distress. CBT targets how thoughts affect emotion, and in turn, affect behaviors. You will be introduced to Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), including the history of CBT, what defines its principles, and the major strategies by which CBT is used in BHRS.
  • THE ROLE OF THE MOBILE THERAPIST | 3 credits

This training provides an introduction to BHRS services and its many different roles. When you have completed the training, you will have a strong understanding of your role as an MT, the expectations of your role, your administrative responsibilities, and the authorization process. This course is intended as an introductory course for new Mobile Therapists.
  • ASPERGER'S SYNDROME | 2 Credits

This course will examine the characteristics, history, treatment and interventions of Asperger's Syndrome. The purpose of the training is not to guide or influence diagnosis or treatment provided by a licensed physician or psychologist, but to inform and prepare H&CS staff for the social, emotional, and clinical considerations of the disorder.
  • ATTENTION-DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD) | 2 Credits

Almost all children have behavior issues from time to time. But, for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioral problems are persistent and occur over a long period of time, creating school, home, and social challenges. This course will examine the characteristics, treatment and interventions for children and adults diagnosed with ADHD. The purpose of the training is not to guide or influence diagnosis or treatment provided by a licensed physician or psychologist, but to inform and prepare professionals and para-professionals of the social, emotional, and clinical considerations of the disorder.
  • ASD and Family Dynamics: A Primer for Home-Based Therapy | 6 Credits

This primer was designed to orient MTs, BSCs and other professionals to special elements found in providing home-based therapy to families of children diagnosed with an ASD. It is in no way an exhaustive resource. All professionals working in this situation must locate themselves within a supportive network of colleagues and supervisors, maintain up-to-date knowledge of ASDs, and be constantly thinking about the ethical implications of their actions.
